Same day restorations sound appealing.
Instead of waiting two weeks for your restoration you’d have it in one appointment.
But what are you getting, and is it worth it?
When you require a dental restoration, it is important to discuss with your dentist exactly what you expect from the treatment. Patients looking for porcelain veneers will be advised on the best way to proceed. For example, a combination of teeth whitening and porcelain veneers may be the best way to give you the smile you’re looking for. Dr Ironside will assess your smile and your expectations to see how best to proceed with treatment.
Porcelain veneers can be used on the teeth in your smile zone: the 6 upper and lower teeth visible when you smile. However, you may only require 3 or 4 veneers for teeth with minor chips and imperfections. And the appearance of your other teeth can be improved with whitening.
When having restorations placed, it is important to know that dental crowns, bridges and veneers cannot be whitened. Since they are colour-matched to your teeth it is important you’re happy with the colour of your smile before restorations are placed.
Same day porcelain restorations
Same day porcelain restorations sound like a great idea. Who doesn’t want to have their dental crown done in one appointment? There are two things you need to consider with same day porcelain restorations: time and quality.
Here’s Dr Ironside explaining his take on same day porcelain restorations:
Restorations from Dr Ironside
An all-porcelain crown is not ideal for back (molar) teeth because of the amount of pressure exerted on these teeth. Damaged molar teeth require a metal or gold crown with porcelain—the porcelain is for aesthetics the metal or gold is to provide support and protection for the damaged tooth.
You would not want to place an all-porcelain crown on a dental implant because a dental implant doesn’t have the same spring as a natural tooth.
Dr Ironside provides quality restorations
When you visit Dr Ironside at his Sydney dental practice, your first consultation can last up to an hour. During this consultation, Dr Ironside will discuss with you what you expect from treatment and how he can help. For Dr Ironside, it’s about knowing where you are coming from and what you expect from the treatment.
The best treatment isn’t the one that’ll give you a flimsy Hollywood smile, or indeed give you anyone else’s smile. The best treatment is the one that helps to improve the aesthetics and function of your smile so it suits you.
